How you rated me:

on the scale from 1 to 5 you rated the course as 4,1 with a standard deviation of 0,7. The worst score I received was 3, and the best was 5.

Except for one student who found the pace too fast (could not take notes sometimes) the speed of the presentation was just right.

Was it interesting? Yes for all of you, except for one "boring AND interesting" remarks. I also realize you excpected more words on behaviour, and absolutely NO mathematics.
Facts or ideas? If anything, you want more ideas and NOT more facts to remember. (This is a good idea I should remember...)

Seems you had no problem with the structure of the presentation.
New elective course? Behaviour Biology got most of the votes with + a few on Neuroethology and Evolution.

The course started too late in the semester. Also it was difficult to sit so late in the afternoon for so long.
It was fun. Good that I made you think

I should have made 50% presence obligatory.
Seems that all of you appreciated the slides (I had fun preparing them).

More guidance on the essay is needed.
Nice to have the notes on the Internet (though I should have given you all on CD rom and paper as well...).

Less about research.
More about behaviour (perhaps with video presentation)

One student was quite angry that I neglected turtles and lizards and gave me the worst score of all (3). I love lizards (I build shelters for them in my vineyard) but the course started as a game management course) . Lizards and snakes are interesting. Please read science news items at my web site on female mimick garter snakes or how lizards can influence the gender of offspring by sunbathing (handy, but do not try this at home).

My response

I am happy that none of you disliked the course, and most of you quite liked it. But then it is biased sample (remember?), as I asked the opinions of only those, who attended regularly.

Next time I would start any course earlier in the semester, make 50% participation obligatory, would still talk about methods but try to make it less painful.
I do not think I should compete with National Geographic and show you video clips. I do understand, however, that you simply have too much to memorize in your regular courses. Taken all together, I had great fun and was surprised of the level of your activity and interest. On the contrary of remarks made some of you (quoted on the right) I WAS impressed.

"And I think you were not very impressed with our ability to discuss problems, ideas... It is not the way we are used to being taught , we are only at the receiving end ..."

"I think the course was good because we made it fun, it was not another course where we hade to just listen, read and remember..."

Funny ?
"Unfortunately I have not had the privelege to attend your lectures due to conflicting practicals. ... is it possible to do an oral examination at a suitable time?"

And now on your scores...

The first question on bioms is worth of 5 point, al the other 1 point. (I did that so that I could give points for partial solution to the biom question)
You can take oral examination on any Tues, Wed or Thursday, provided you sign up at the office of Ecology Department. Please read lecture notes carefully. It is only a few pages after all...

Code or abbreviated name (points)
suggested score. minus: you arer requested to take oral exam for credit (but do study lecture notes before you try). Anyone can come to oral and improve score.
